Effects of this medicine
This medicine is categorized as a loop diuretic and exerts its diuretic action by inhibiting Na and Cl reabsorption in the renal tubule and lowers blood pressure by reducing circulatory blood flow through its diuretic action.
It is usually used to treat hypertension, malignant hypertension, edema due to cardiac/renal/hepatic/peripheral vascular disorder, premenstrual syndrome, and promote excretion of urinary calculi.
Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)
・In general, for adults, take 2 to 4 tablets (40 to 80 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, once daily or once every two days. The dosage may be adjusted according to the age or symptoms. A much more dosage may be used if you have renal dysfunction. However, for the treatment of malignant hypertension, this medicine is usually co-administered with other anti-hypertensives. Strictly follow the instructions.
・If you miss a dose, take the missed dose as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your regular dosing schedule. You should never take two doses at one time.
・If you accidentally take more than your prescribed dose, consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist
・If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines.
・If you have anuria, hepatic coma, reduced levels of sodium or potassium in body fluids, hepatocirrhosis, coronary arteriosclerosis, cerebral arteriosclerosis, renal disorder, liver disease/liver dysfunction, a history or family history of gout, diabetes mellitus, diarrhea, or vomiting.
・If you are scheduled for an operation or on sodium restricted diet therapy.
・If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
・If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)
Precautions while taking this medicine
・The medicine may cause dizziness or lightheadedness due to its blood pressure reduction. Pay attention when you work at height, drive a car or operate dangerous machinery.
・Avoid taking this medicine after dinner, as it leads to nocturnal urination thus causing difficulties falling asleep, unless otherwise instructed by your doctor.
