Effects of this medicine
・This medicine inhibits SGLT2, which reabsorbs glucose in the kidney, to increase excretion of glucose in the urine and decrease the blood glucose.
・It is usually used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Dosing schedule (How to take this medicine)
・For type 2 diabetes mellitus: In general, for adults, take 1 tablet (10 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, once a day, before or after breakfast. If the effect is insufficient, the dosage may be increased to 25 mg at a time once a day.
・For chronic heart failure and chronic kidney disease: In general, for adults, take 1 tablet (10 mg of the active ingredient) at a time, once a day, before or after breakfast.
・This preparation contains 10 mg of the active ingredient in a tablet. Strictly follow the instructions.
・If you miss a dose, skip the missed dose and follow your regular dosing schedule on the following day. You should never take two doses at one time.
Before using this medicine, be sure to tell your doctor and pharmacist
・If you have previously experienced any allergic reactions (itch, rash, etc.) to any medicines or foods.
・If you have ketosis, diabetic coma or precoma, infections, injury, pituitary gland insufficiency, adrenal insufficiency, irregular eating habit, urinary tract infection, genital infection, type 1 diabetes mellitus, severe renal dysfunction with eGFR less than 20 mL/min/1.73 m2 or end-stage kidney disease on dialysis.
・If you are in the pre- or post-operative period, in poor nutritional state, starved, debilitated or prone to dehydration.
・If you cannot eat enough, exercise intensely or drink a lot of alcohol.
・For the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus: If you have moderate renal dysfunction with eGFR less than 45 mL/min/1.73 m2.
・If you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
・If you are taking any other medicinal products. (Some medicines may interact to enhance or diminish medicinal effects. Beware of over-the-counter medicines and dietary supplements as well as other prescription medicines.)
Precautions while taking this medicine
・Strictly follow the instructions on dietary/exercise therapy.
・The blood glucose and renal function should be measured regularly during treatment with this medicine.
・This medicine may cause polyuria/frequent urination, resulting in decreased body fluid volume and causing dehydration. Please try to take an appropriate amount of water. This medicine may cause weight loss. Take care in excessive weight loss.
・This medicine may cause hypoglycemia symptoms. Pay close attention to performing dangerous operation such as working at height or driving a car.
・Please take a sufficient amount of sugar (such as any food containing sugar) when hypoglycemia symptoms occur. If you take this medicine with an alfa-glucosidase inhibitor, which delays the sugar absorption, and have an onset of hypoglycemia symptoms, please take glucose.
・Because of excessive glucose excreted with urine, this medicine may cause ketoacidosis (blood becomes acidic) without significant rise in blood glucose levels. If any of the following symptoms occur, consult with your doctor: nausea, vomiting, lack of appetite, abdominal pain, excessive thirst, general malaise, breathing difficulty, decreased consciousness, etc. The following patients must take care because they may easily fall into ketoacidosis: patients with decreased insulin secretion, who reduced or stopped insulin formulation, who are subject to excessive carbohydrate intake restriction, who cannot eat, with infectious diseases or with dehydration.
・Because of excessive glucose excreted with urine, this medicine may cause urinary tract infection (frequent urination, feeling of residual urine, painful urination, etc.) or genital infection (genital itch, genital pain, etc.), resulting in serious infection such as pyelonephritis, vulvar and perineal necrotizing fasciitis (Fournier gangrene) and sepsis. If any of these symptoms occur, consult with your doctor.
・For healthcare professional use only
